Acute Hepatic Porphyria is due to an enzymatic alteration of porphyrin biosynthesis, which leads to the intratissue accumulation of potentially toxic metabolic by-products. In this form, the deficient enzyme is ALAD, otherwise known as porphobilinogen synthase.
